For almost 10 years, Mary has been working and training within the paint industry. She first became interested when she was living in Calgary, Canada and left her corporate job to return to art school. Mary discovered that she loved to paint on an immensely large scale and murals became the order of the day.
During this time, Mary also headed off to Mt Royal College to complete a series of Interior Decorating Courses. While at Mt Royal,she discovered that they also ran courses in decorative effects painting, which she eagerly consumed. Techniques such as; french washes, textured effects, faux leather, faux stone [faux is merely the french for fake or false] so these were pretend stone, marble, etc. and were applied to customers walls and ceilings, a much more affordable and quite often more practical way to achieve particular styles. These decorative effects also proved to be useful aids to be used in her muraling work.
When Mary returned to Australia in 2003, she continued painting murals and decorative effects and had to test out a lot of local products in the process. She took courses with different paint companies and further courses on decorative effects. Then a couple of years ago, her arms decided that working with them up in the air all day wasn't going to be possible. So an alternate plan had to come into play.
Mary learned to design kitchens but was always drawn back to the versatility and affordability of PAINT. Having worked within the paint industry helping people to choose colour and product, it only made sense to take all of this accumulated knowledge and put it into a consultation business.
When Mary was working in paint stores, she saw how customers struggled with colour choices and even more so with which particular products suited their needs. There's only a limited amount of information one can give across the counter - to be able to give an accurate opinion, one must be able to walk through the area to be treated.
Mary felt that she'd like to share her knowledge with clients and so I formed "COLOUR BY COLOUR" which now exists to help you make educated choices.
